How to Make Your Own Nature Dress
Introducing the “How to Make Your Own Nature Dress” Tutorial!
A Nature Dress (as defined by me, Justice McNeil Sumser, maker of Thread + Sprout), is a fun, comfy, flowy dress made with curved color blocking to look like hills, flowing mist, the waves of the ocean, sand dunes, your favorite fantasy land or whatever else you have in mind.
This tutorial will teach you how to make a Nature Dress - it will use a pre-existing pattern for a simple boxy top for the bodice and a you-drafted skirt pattern (don’t worry we will go over it step by step). Please note, this tutorial does not include a pattern BUT will teach you how to make your own pattern for the curved color sections using a pattern of your choosing. I have included a few suggestions of other sewists’ boxy top patterns in the written instructions in the tutorial but you can also find one you like by googling “boxy top sewing pattern” or if you’re feeling adventurous, you can self-draft a pattern!
If you want to add some cute appliqué mushrooms to your Nature Dress, check out the Mushroom Appliqué Tutorial!
After purchasing, you will receive an email with a link to download the PDF and a link to the video.
Please find more information below :)

While sewing a basic boxy bodice/rectangle skirt dress is fairly beginner-friendly, sewing curved lines can be tricky. I recommend anyone who wants to, to try it out but be patient with yourself and know that it may take a few tries :) It may be good to practice a bit before you cut into your nice/favorite fabric.

a light to mid-weight woven fabric like a non-stretch cotton or linen works best
